Audra McDonald is returning to movie screens in a role befitting the likes of Beyoncé or Lady Gaga.
Following her turn as the opera star-turned-wardrobe, Madame Garderobe, in Beauty and the Beast, the six-time Tony winner is taking on another cinematic musical in the big-screen adaptation of Michael John LaChiusa’s Hello Again.
Originally produced by Lincoln Center Theatre in 1994, Hello Again follows 10 love affairs across 10 different periods of New York City history in a series of intertwined vignettes that eventually come full circle. McDonald joins Cheyenne Jackson, Martha Plimpton, T.R. Knight, Jenna Ushkowitz, and more in this tale of love lost and won.
The Broadway legend transforms into a 2002-era pop diva in the song “Beyond the Moon,” a number that finds her flanked by back-up dancers while she struts in an outfit fit for a lunar goddess.
The song was penned specifically for McDonald for the film and was not part of the original theatrical score.
